Just Keep Showing Up

March 23, 2020 | Written by Amanda Ware

The last few years my world has been made up of my family at home and in town (with loved ones states away), working online with my clients, my kids’ school adventures, and then finding moments here and there to grab a meal with a friend.

About a year ago I joined a group that meets at a coffee shop once a month and I make it about half the time…and love every minute of the giggles and tears we share as we learn to laugh at our tangled lives.

This week was supposed to be our next meet up, but social distancing for the benefit of our communities happened so we needed to stay home.

We opted to meet online instead.

I have used Zoom for my business meetings with clients in other states for the last few years, but this was the first time for me to join a group online for fun and friendship. Of course, we agreed from the start that this was going to be a PJ friendly space and a bring-your-own-beverage night.

I wasn’t sure how this was going to go, but I was up for trying it out.

Throughout our night, there was laughter, joy, empathy, questions, advice, doubts and a rousing scavenger hunt. One of our women was self-quarantining in her own home with symptoms, and she didn’t have to miss out. We shared some fears and some more laughs, and we felt a little lighter when the night was over.

Whether it’s around a table or in front of a computer screen, we need to show up for each other.

Go ahead and venture out in this brave new world by staying home and going online. We need each other, and we can find time and space for friendship in this stressful season of quarantine.

Showing up matters now more than ever.

In the spirit of staying “healthy,” I’ll share my recipe for a fun cocktail to enjoy while you share life online with your friends.

Quarantine Spritzer
1 Emergen-C packet (recommend strawberry-kiwi)
8oz sparkling water (recommend orange Bubly)
2oz vodka (optional)

Stir and serve in a nice glass. Pairs well with chocolate chip cookie bars.

Enjoy and join us next month!

A Reminder to Be Steadfast

I’m not sure where your heart is with our world spinning out a bit, but I do know that we are all feeling the weight of this current season in some way. In times like this we are tempted to fix, control, understand, and numb out. But I’ve been focusing on the word “steadfast.” Our God is steadfast. And we should be too.

The Bittersweet Place of Hope

Sometimes we get lost in this idea of helping others in far places and lose site of who we can help in our immediate vicinity. I was ready to go wherever God wanted me to go. But, he already had me where he wanted me to be. I am now standing with people in their fear, panic, worry, and loss.

Practicing In Home Discipleship

Without a doubt, this pandemic is a disruption to each of our lives. We can allow this disruption to throw us into a tailspin of fear, anxiety, lethargy, etc. or we can reframe this disruption as a bittersweet blessing. We can ask our God to use this time to bring refreshment and renewal. Here’s a great resource to help you with this.
