The Road to Rio

Tonight is the Opening Ceremonies for the 2016 Summer Olympics! (Eeeek! Who’s excited?!) We wait four years for this.

AmundsonsGuess what? Two of our very own Pulpit Rock family, Larry and Ellen Amundson, will be there. Larry is the director of Athletes in Action, a ministry that started in 1966 using sports as a platform to help people answer questions of faith and to point them to Jesus.

Larry and Ellen, along with a group of 125 others, are traveling to Rio de Janeiro for two weeks of ministry at the games.

Larry explains how it all started four years ago.

Four years ago we developed a prayer ministry emphasis for the Olympic Games in London. We asked ministry partners and individuals in our churches to pray for five Olympic Athletes by name each day for the two weeks of the games. We asked prayer warriors to go to our web site to receive these five names for athletes from different countries. Our goal is that all 15,000 athletes would be prayed for each day by name by several believers.

And it’s happening again this year in Rio. This is a great way for us to connect with the Olympics and an opportunity to love our neighbors, this time athletes from around the world.

Would you join Larry, Ellen and Athletes in Action in praying for athletes from around the world?
