As we wrap up our 12 Minor Prophets sermon series with the book of Malachi, we want to know what God has been teaching you in this journey through the Prophets.
We value learning from the reflections of others as they study God’s Word. So comment your thoughts below, and check out all of the Reading Reflections if you haven’t already!
Becky Cleveland: Malachi
Returning, Testing, Forgetting. Unfaithfulness, Breaking Covenants and Remembering.
Oh the relatability of the themes in the book of Malachi! I wish I didn’t connect with the ups and downs of my heart and mind in my faith.
I am grateful for the example of human frailty with the promise of a God who allows me to question and doubt… needing the same lessons and reassurances over and over, like a willful child and YET, “I the Lord do not change… return to me, and I will return to you.”
His faithfulness to me is not contingent on me, and like a loving parent, He is steady and consistent even when I am not (Malachi 3:7). I trust this promise, and know that when I “return” to look at His face, know His words, follow Him, be with Him, that I won’t be forsaken.
Being intimately known and yet fully accepted by this faithful God is my greatest gift. And it’s a gift for each of us that will accept it freely. All we need to do is return.
I trust in this promise as I live out a life of worship in reverence to the Lord. “But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness, will rise with healing in its rays.” – Malachi 4:2
May we rise with healing in the return of our hearts, minds, and souls to our maker.
