Each winter, our middle school and high school students have the opportunity to join hundreds of other students from across Colorado for winter camp. Of course, this experience comes with its challenges as leaders—fighting off sickness, navigating life circumstances, and even the daunting task of driving 15-passenger vans through snowy mountain passes. But after all that, something wonderful happens: we step into a moment with Jesus.
Just as God met Moses on the mountain with a word, every time we take students up the mountain, Jesus meets them—and us—with a word. As I spoke with some of our leaders about how Jesus moved within our group this year, I imagined each student catching a glimpse of the one true God. We witnessed incredible moments of students going deep—connecting with one another, with their leaders, and with God Himself.
There were powerful moments in worship, where students became fully immersed in the presence of God. Both students and leaders returned home with a deeper understanding of His immense love for us.
When I tell people I’m taking middle or high school students to camp for a weekend, I often get the “Wow, you’re crazy!” look. And while I do come back sleep-deprived and exhausted, the experience of seeing God move in our students’ lives makes it all worth it. The silence, cold, and beauty of the mountains, combined with the wild energy of teenagers seeking God, create a truly unique encounter with the Creator of the universe.
Thank you to everyone who supported our students through scholarships and prayer. I am deeply grateful to God for the opportunity to meet Him on the mountain, surrounded by hundreds of students calling out His name.
