Early Childhood Director

Position Summary:

This position ministers to the parents and children of the PRC community by overseeing regular childcare and programming for children from birth through preschool, occasional childcare, and programming for elementary children.

Position Reports To: Kids & Family Pastor

Times and Hours: This is a 10-hour-a-week, salaried position. Salary range is $16 - $18 an hour.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees nursery volunteers and staff and preschool volunteers and staff

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Nursery & Childcare

  • Oversee all aspects of childcare for all-church events, departmental events, and outside events as requested.
  • Maintain a staff of Nursery Caregivers, Nursery Leads, and Nursery Supervisors, including: hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising all workers as well as ministering to their spiritual needs.
  • During events, monitor Staff/child ratios to ensure safe rooms. Adjust ratios according to industry best practices.
  • Oversee the purchase of supplies, and maintain records on scheduling, payroll, nursery usage, and budget.
  • Work in Nursery when needed, oversee staff in action for discipleship possibilities.
  • Ensure curriculum is prepared for all rooms and all events.
  • Augment programs as needed for children with special needs.

Supporting Parents

  • Provide education, support, and encouragement for parents of young children through:
    • Connecting with parents and discussing their child’s individual needs.
    • Nurturing and disciplining young parents by addressing spiritual and emotional needs.
    • Support families.
  • Oversee other ministry opportunities like Parent Nights Out.

General Responsibilities

  • Efficiently carry out all administrative duties of the position, including prompt response to correspondence, voice mail, and email.
  • Develop relational connections with church guests and members through events, activities, and individual contact, including follow-up for visitors and non-attenders, and foster relationships among those individuals with one another.
  • Equip, recruit, and train lay leaders to include communicating curriculum goals, risk management, church protocol, group leadership skills, specific activity skills, and
  • Develop strategic outreach opportunities; both as equipping experiences and as evangelistic opportunities.
  • Develop, evaluate, and oversee the early childhood budget.
  • Work with appropriate staff to develop a communication plan, update the website, and communicate events to the church.

General Staff Responsibilities

  • Check-ins with supervisor (2x a month)
  • Regularly attend staff meetings and formation days (as able)
  • Represent Christ and Pulpit Rock Church with grace and hospitality.
  • Understand and support the vision, values, mission, and ministry of Pulpit Rock Church.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff towards ministry vision and goals, follow the staff values and norms, follow the Guidelines as stated in the Employee Guidelines Manual, and respect confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Required Skills 

  • Vibrant and healthy spiritual life.
  • Active member of Pulpit Rock Church, and/or holds beliefs that do not conflict with those of Pulpit Rock Church.
  • College Graduate preferred
