In the understanding of Loving One another, there is a love of neighbor and love of God. The biggest disconnect for me is the understanding how such a simple summary is not exemplified in the volume of scripture. If, all other commands are obsolete by this one that sums all of them then how can such a claim be made that all others are mute?
If we love God and we love his son Jesus then we should understand how he understood love – John 14:15 if you love me keep my commandments.
1 john 2:1-5. We know that Gods loves us if we walk as he walked
Mathew 5:15-17 Think not that I have come to destroy the Law (Instructions/Torah) I have not come to destroy but to fulfill (Greek=Ple-roo)
If these NT verses, along with many others scattered in the back of the book confirm this basic Christian understanding shouldn’t the front of the book flesh out the practicum of how this is exemplified?
Every time someone brings up law or commandments, they bristle. I am not trying to say this is a “salvation Issue” by works, another annoying phrase Mark Twain would grow tired of I’m sure, It’s a Holiness Issue.
The question becomes if I’m saved by Grace through faith, via the Holy Spirit, and am commanded to love. then, how do I love through Gods holiness? Holiness, a word rarely dwelled on. When’s the last time we heard a sermon on it? The things God gave us to do that please our heavenly father and the things God says we are to do in loving our neighbor as ourselves.
This is not something the church reflects on to a great degree but I have yet to see Christians take the time to sincerley understand it and its application in the body of Christ.
