It has been a dream of mine to get a master’s degree since I was a high school senior. However, God’s plan and timing for my life was much different than anything I could have ever dreamed of as an ambitious teenager.
I married the love of my life before I even finished my bachelor’s degree in business. Our first few years together were a whirlwind of working, schooling, and military deployments followed immediately by starting a family. The possibly of grad school faded. The Fortune 500 I worked for dissolved my business group and I was part of a large scale lay-off.
I went from businesswoman to stay at home mom overnight… yet it was one of the best things that ever happened to me and my family!
It was a joy to teach and train my kids at home. Later, I found fulfillment in volunteering in their schools. This eventually led to taking on a part time role as a paraprofessional at a local elementary school and then co-directing Pulpit Rock Student Ministries 5th and 6th graders (PRiSM 56).
At almost 40 years old, I finally know what I want to be when I grow up – a teacher.
The door to grad school opened up this past year and I started my master’s degree in Special Education at Colorado Christian University (CCU). I loved the idea of attending a school locally.
Even though my program is all online, I have been able to connect with other teachers and aspiring teachers who live locally and share similar experiences. The Biblical world view is also shaping the way I approach teaching and is applicable for my role in student ministry.
CCU is partnering with Pulpit Rock Church to offer a discounted tuition to anyone within our church family. If continuing your education is part of your story, and CCU is the right fit, I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.
Please reach out to me if you have questions about my journey or if I can guide you in yours.
We all have dreams and goals. Whether God says, “Yes,” “No,” or “Not yet” to our desires, we can trust that He has amazing plans for our lives.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
Isiah 55:9
