Lenten Experience – Uncommon Kingdom
What exactly is Lent? And why do we practice it?
The season of Lent is the 40 days leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection three days later and a time to prepare our hearts. This season has been observed by Christians all over the world for over 1,000 years.
The purpose of participating and engaging in this time of preparation is to come closer to Jesus. It is a season of focus – focusing our attention and being intentional about the work of God in our lives.

Lent is a time we can strip away anything extra or false in our lives, allowing what is true to become clearer. We get in touch with our desperate need for Him -recognizing our mortality and our brokenness. The more we can grab on to this truth, the more fully He can piece us back together.
We will continue in the Uncommon Kingdom series focusing on the Sermon on the Mount for Lent. Each week we will offer a few simple ways to engage and participate in this preparation of our hearts for Easter that also connects with the Sermon on the Mount. Lent Practices
- Fasting (Giving up)- making a choice to give something up for the season of Lent in order to focus on forming our desires. This could also mean adding something to your days in place of what you’ve given up – something that helps you remain connected to Jesus.
- Prayer-intentional time of sitting with and listening to the Spirit.
- Giving- sharing out of what has been given to you.
- Confession- mourning our brokenness and allowing God to show us our belovedness.
