Erika and her husband, Alfonza, moved their family of seven from North Carolina to
Colorado last year in hopes of creating a more stable future. Alfonza is completely blind,
and one of their twin boys has been diagnosed with autism. For the past year, the family
had been living in a basement, with the children sleeping on cots.
Recently, they were finally able to sign a one-year lease on a rental home, a significant step
forward after a long season of uncertainty. When Erika reached out for help, Love Your
Neighbor was able to provide beds for the entire family, giving them a sense of comfort,
dignity, and stability as they begin this new chapter.
A foster family caring for an 8-year-old with significant behavioral and emotional needs
recently reached out for help. Because of ongoing bed wetting and other challenges, both
of his mattresses had become unusable and needed to be replaced. To give him a clean,
safe, and comfortable place to sleep, the family requested two new twin mattresses, and
two zippered waterproof mattress covers that he would be unable to remove.
Love Your Neighbor was able to provide everything the family needed, ensuring this child
now has a healthy sleeping environment and offering meaningful support to the foster
parents as they continue to care for his complex needs with patience and compassion.
Ezekiel currently has a bed in his room, but his foster family is hoping to welcome his
11-year-old brother, Shawn, into their home. Ezekiel’s bed cannot accommodate both
boys, and the family needs bunk beds to make space for them to live together. The brothers
are part of a sibling group of seven, five of whom have been in foster care for nearly five
years. Shawn’s current foster family recently decided they are not the right long-term fit for
him, and Ezekiel’s foster family is now exploring the possibility of taking him in so the
brothers can remain connected
On Christmas Eve morning, the court of appeals affirmed the termination of parental rights,
meaning the children are now free to be adopted, a profound gift and a hopeful turning
point for this sibling group. Love Your Neighbor was able to assist by providing the bunk
beds needed, helping create a safe and stable space for the boys as they move toward
permanency and the possibility of being raised together.
