Hearts Changed on Denver City Mission Trip

July 8, 2025 by Tiah Ciganek

From June 19th to the 22nd, we took a mission trip down to Denver to serve the homeless community and lend a hand wherever we could. Throughout the week, we volunteered with several different ministries and took part in a variety of activities. We handed out blessing bags that the PRiSM students had prepared ahead of time, made and delivered lunches to share with the homeless community, giving us the opportunity to listen to their stories, and pick up trash around the city streets as a simple way to show Jesus’ love through action. We even moved countless bins of gravel up a hill to help fill in a sandpit for a local school.

During our time in Denver, we were divided into colored teams. I was part of the Orange Team. Each day, when we returned to the church, every team had specific responsibilities, whether it was cooking meals, cleaning, or helping out wherever there was a need. My personal favorite job was being on cooking duty with my team as we all learned more about each other and how to work best together to be able to cook and provide food for everyone.

One of the most powerful ways I saw God moving was during our nightly debriefs. Each evening, we gathered together to reflect on the day, sharing our highs, our lows, and moments where we saw Jesus at work. At the beginning of the trip, many of us were a little hesitant and kept our answers slightly surface-level. But by the end of the week, there was a noticeable shift in the atmosphere. Hearts had softened, walls had come down, and Jesus had touched each person in some way, whether they expressed it openly or not. Watching how much each individual had grown and how deeply they had been impacted was truly something special to witness.
