SENT | Josiah Shipp | Bible Study with Friends

September 21, 2018 | Written by Josiah Shipp

SENT is part of a new weekly series telling stories of people at Pulpit Rock living missionally in their unique contexts. We believe that all of us have been SENT into our neighborhoods, workplaces and city. Our hope is that you are encouraged and inspired to lean into the places God has called you. And then we’d like to tell your story. Because we know that the story of God’s people is the story of God. If you have a story you would like to share with us send it to info@pulpitrock.com.

Recently you attended a summer camp and got an idea, can you tell us about it?

I went to camp with Bible study every day and I liked it and it was fun, so I wanted to do my own. I made this 4-week camp that we started the last Friday of summer. It is about the Gospel so we got to start with Creation and this week we finish with Restoration. I have 8 friends in it.

There is a lot of work involved in getting something like that started, how did you do it?

First I asked my mom if I could do it and she said it was a good idea. I started to make a booklet with pencil and paper and then I typed it on the computer. We texted all the moms to invite my friends and they all said yes except for two.

How has it been going so far, any idea for future?

It’s going good. We are having lots of fun. After Bible study they can eat dinner with us and we jump on the trampoline and play Wii. I want to keep doing it forever. My friends do too.

What is something you personally have seen or learned as you stepped out to lead?

Smarties is the favorite prize. It’s been fun and I was surprised by everyone’s interest.

What would you say to others who read this story and have a similiar idea?

You can start your own, just remember to ask your parents. You might need a little help from an adult. Pray about it and be sure to provide lots of Bibles!

Josiah is nine years old. He attends Pulpit Rock with his parents, Ed and Amber, and his sister Alaena.
