Growing Young: Core Values (Part 2) Aug 27, 2017 | Sermon | 2 comments http://pulpitrock.com/podcast/170827.m4aPodcast: Play in new window | DownloadSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | Email | Google Play | Stitcher | RSSShare this post: 2 Comments Pat Ploegsma on September 17, 2017 at 9:54 pm Hi, I am wondering if you are going to start a “new” program for growing young and trying to reach the college and young adults? My husband got all excited about this and really wants to get involved (when he retires). But now I am wondering if this was just a recruitment vehicle and not a new program. I would really like details even though he cannot get involved right now, but he is making life choices based on getting involved with college and young adults. Thanks and blessings. Pat Reply Suzy Bates on September 18, 2017 at 2:09 pm Pat, Thank you for your interest! Here is where we are with this right now: We have recognized college students need what every student needs – a place to worship, to be taught and relational connection. We have intentionally decided those first two needs can be met in our Sunday morning worship setting. In fact, we are trying to bring our High School students into that setting more and more. By the time a student is in college, it¹s a tragedy if they have only ever experienced church in a bubble setting of only their peers. Much of the Growing Young research led us to this conclusion. We also recognize that relational connection is hard in the main services if there is not a separate service for college students only. Honestly, people of any age who are new experience that difficulty. We are working on some plans and ideas for meeting that specific need in college students and in new members in general. Some things that have been working well are connecting new people to service projects like our Love Your Neighbor initiatives and getting new people into an intergenerational small group. I don¹t think this is the final chapter on college ministry at Pulpit Rock. This is simply where we are currently. I would love to engage with your husband on ideas or leadings he may have. Just because there is not currently an official program for college students, does not mean he could not begin meaningful and purposeful connection and leadership with the college and young adults in our church!
