Elder Directory & Biographies

What our Elders do

Pulpit Rock Church identifies the scope of responsibility of elders as shepherding, governing, instructing, and prayer, and all elders are members of Pulpit Rock's Pastor/Elder Fellowship. Some elders are also asked to serve defined terms on the Board of Governing Elders, which has final responsibility for legal issues, matters of faith and practice, and oversight of the Senior Pastor.

Our Active Elders
	George Brown (Governing Board) 719-598-6767 George and his wife Cathy have been at Pulpit Rock since 1994. They have been married over 25 years and have three adult children--Christopher, Michelle, and David. George serves as the Executive Director of the European Christian Mission International – USA. This ministry exists to reach the more than 800 million people in Europe who do not know Christ. ECMI works to establish and develop reproducing churches that evangelize and disciple the peoples of Europe.

	Jay Butler 719-598-6767 Jay came to know the Lord in 1970 while a student at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. He has been a member of Pulpit Rock Church since 1981, during which time he has taught a number of adult classes including the Single Parents Ministry, Seekers Forum and the New Members Class. He has two adult children, Patrick and Christi-Marie, and currently serves as U.S. Director for Greater Europe Mission.

	Luke Gheen, Secretary (Governing Board) 719-598-6767 Luke has been attending Pulpit Rock since 1996 when he lived on campus at the University of Colorado. He and his wife Kristin have been married since February 2002, and have a son--Rush. He has been involved in young adult ministry, men's ministry, the Young Married's Group, and the 605. Luke has both a Bachelor's and MBA in Finance from the University of Colorado, and has worked in corporate finance since 1998.

	Doug Lagasse 719-598-6767 The Lagasse family came to Pulpit Rock in 1999, when Doug joined the Worship Team as a drummer/percussionist. After 15 years serving as missionaries in and around China, OC International reassigned him to their US Mobilization Center to direct the Creative Access Division, helping Christian professionals find meaningful ministry in countries that don’t welcome traditional missionaries. Doug and Dawn have two grown children. Raising their granddaughter (born in 2006) helps them relate to and gives them an excuse to hang out with young couples and families.

	Bob Lovvorn 719-598-6767 Bob and Betty met Christ while Bob was attending Army flight school in 1964 through an Officer's Christian Fellowship Bible Study. He resigned his commission in 1967 and joined the staff of the Navigators in 1969. They have been involved in community, military, and collegiate ministries. They have three married children and five grandchildren and have attended PRC since 1999. They both enjoy playing golf, and Bob enjoys playing racquetball.

	Brian Plaisted, Vice Chairman (Governing Board) 719-598-6767 Brian has been involved in the leadership of PRC Bridge Builders and C.A.R.E. communities, an engaged couples group, a home fellowship, and has been married to Lisa for 12 years. He currently works as a Defense Contractor at Peterson Air Force Base. They have four children, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Joseph, and Bethany. They began attending Pulpit Rock in 1995.

	Mark Stephens 719-598-6767 Mark has been a member since 1973 while he was a young student. In 1981, he served in the leadership of the College & Careers class until he was married in 1986. He and his wife then helped start a newlywed class that is now the Growing Families Community. Beth is a full-time mom of their four children: Wendy, Katie, Scotty, and Jonathan. Mark is a project manager at BCSi. He graduated from UCCS with an MS in Electrical Engineering.

	Thomas Thompson, Senior Pastor 719-598-6767 x. 202 \| email \| Blog Thomas Thompson is a recent transplant to Colorado after serving in churches in Texas and Oklahoma. He is an Aggie and a Dallas Seminary graduate with a focus in church planting. He and Jessica have been married for nine years and have four kids, Clara, Beau, Henry, and Gus. Outside of grilling out, reading books, and playing games with his family, Thomas' passion in life is to inspire people to be doers of the Word. After serving for two years as Lead Teaching Pastor, Thomas was commissioned by the Elder Board to the role of Senior Pastor in 2010.

	David White, Elder Board Chairman (Governing Board) 719-598-6767 David has a B.A. from Wheaton College, an M.Div. from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, and a J.D. from University of Kansas School of Law. He and his wife Brenda have two children, Sarah and Eric. They have been attending Pulpit Rock since 1999. David enjoys golf, reading, and camping.
